ALAN HOLLANDER has been principal oboist as well as a featured soloist with numerous ensembles throughout the New York metropolitan area. He has conducted the American Wind Ensemble, Larchmont Symphony and various other ensembles in the region, and has been the Music Director/ Conductor of the Westchester Band for the past 13 years.
Mr. Hollander is an adjunct professor of oboe at Hofstra University and is Professor of Music at Lehman College, teaching conducting and graduate music education courses. He is the Director of the Lehman College Community Band, and Lehman Concert Chamber Ensemble. In May 2011, he was elected Deputy Chairman of the Music Department. Mr. Hollander stepped down from his full-time duties at Lehman College, and still continues to direct the band, lead the faculty woodwind quintet, as well as teach conducting.
Mr. Hollander is quite active as a clinician/ conductor in public school music throughout New York State, leading All County and All State Festival Ensembles. For the past 12 years, he has been the editor of the Oboe,English Horn, and Woodwind Quintet sections of the New York State School Music Association Manual. For 29 years, he was the Director of Music and Instrumental Ensembles in the Edgemont Public Schools. Recently. he has published his own arrangements of music for Oboe, Wind Quintet, and Concert Band. He is also the sole manufacturer of Gordet Oboes. In his “spare” time, he enjoys boating and is an avid Yankee’s fan. He is currently working on a book detailing the techniques required to successfully operate a community band.
